Teeth Whitening Malaysia

This is the process of lightening the color of your teeth.  There are many ways in which you can do this. It is often done because, over time, teeth become yellowed for a variety of reasons.  The main ingredient in most teeth whitening products is hydrogen peroxide but can also be carbamide peroxide.

The whitening agent, which is hydrogen or carbamide peroxide, will penetrate the enamel of the tooth to reach the discolored molecules that are inside your tooth.  The discolored molecules in your teeth will react with the oxygen molecules from the whitening agent and break the bonds that hold them together.  The oxygen molecules will spread whitening over the entire tooth. This will leave you with a whiter, brighter smile.  Basically, it works by removing the pigment from the enamel of your teeth and whitening it from the inside of the tooth.

In a dentist office:

Using this option, you can get your teeth whiter faster.  The reason is that the bleaching solution is much stronger than what is in the in-home kits.  In the office, the dentist may also use a light, heat, or a combination of both to intensify and speed up the whitening process.  To get results, it will generally take several 30-60 minute office visits to get the most dramatic results.  This is usually three to eight shades brighter.  The downside to letting your dentist whiten your teeth is cost; the price can range from $500-$1,000.

At-home:

Doing it at home is a lot cheaper and you have several choices.  All of them use a peroxide-based bleaching agent.

  • Strips and gels—these are applied directly to your teeth with a thin strip or brush. They need to be applied once or twice a day.  It will take 10-14 days to see results and will last four or more months.  The cost is $10-$55.
  • Tray-based—with this method you use a mouth guard-like tray that is filled with gel or paste. The tray is then placed over the teeth several hours a day.  You can use this for up to four weeks.  These can be custom-fitted by your dentist or bought over the counter.  The cost is $150-$500.
  • Toothpaste—these kinds of toothpaste are mildly abrasive so they will help to remove stains from your teeth. They contain polishing or chemical agents that will help to scrub the stains from your teeth but do not have a bleaching agent.  The toothpaste is inexpensive and will brighten your teeth by one shade.  There may be some that do contain peroxide but since you rinse your mouth after brushing, it is not left on the teeth long enough to benefit whitening your teeth.

Make sure that you use the right products because inferior products can do more harm than good.  Also, make sure that you are following the directions correctly on home-whitening systems.  Inferior products or if used the wrong way can lead to burned gums or even temporary bleached gums.  To help ensure that you are not using inferior teeth whitening products also look for the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance.  If you choose products without this seal, you may be getting some treatments that have a higher level of bleaching agent than is safe.

This is a quick and effective way to whiten your teeth in a short period of time; as short as one hour.  When you use home whitening kits it can be weeks or even months before you see results and even then, your teeth may not be as white as if you had them done professionally.  To use this method of teeth whitening, it has to be done by your dentist.

One of the main reasons that you should get it done professionally is that it is safer and it works very quickly.  They can use different techniques and stronger bleaching agents.  The treatment will also last longer.  Having it done professionally by your dentist will help to make your teeth whiter and brighter. The dental trays are also customized for each patient so they fit correctly and are comfortable.  They will also cover what they are supposed to, which is your teeth.   If you do not want to get it done at the dentist’s office, you can do it at home using those customized dental trays.   If you are one that has sensitive gums, the dentist will be able to help you avoid irritating your gums with custom-fitted dental trays.  As you can see, whether you do it at home or the dentist’s office, they will ensure that the dental tray fits to avoid any problems, unlike the at-home systems that have dental trays that may or may not fit your mouth correctly.
