Invisalign

Invisalign is a proven system that uses clear aligners to move the teeth into position. These aligners are made of plastic that looks virtually invisible when in the mouth, which is where the name “Invisalign” came from.
These aligners are custom-designed for your mouth, using a high-tech computer system that designs the way your teeth need to be moved. You will use a series of aligners, and each set is usually worn for one to two weeks before moving onto the next set of aligners in the series. Patients love Invisalign because the aligners can be removed as needed for eating.
The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign is to schedule a consultation in our dental clinic. We will complete a thorough examination and talk about your smile goals. Invisalign can be a great treatment for people who are looking to fix common aesthetic problems:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Underbite
  • Overbite
  • Openbite
  • Crossbite

Invisalign Treatment Process – The 6 Stages

  • Have a consultation with your orthodontist.
  • Your orthodontist creates a treatment plan.
  • Wait for your aligners.
  • Wear your aligners.
  • Your orthodontist refines your smile.
  • Maintain your smile.

Invisalign treatment starts with a consultation with an Invisalign-trained doctor. Your doctor will evaluate your smile and then map out a precise, customized digital treatment plan that showcases the step-by-step transformation of your smile.

Once you approve your plan, your unique aligners will be created. You will wear each set of aligners for around 20 to 22 hours a day, changing to a new set of aligners every 1 to 2 weeks, as directed by your doctor. Each set of aligners will gently and gradually shift your teeth into place, according to your treatment plan, until you reach your beautiful new smile.

During the initial consultation with the orthodontist, he will evaluate, assess and discuss the course of treatment with you. We would take a quick 5 minutes photos and x-ray of your teeth. Invisalign takes two to three weeks to make your aligners using an advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to transform your bite impressions into a custom-made series of clear and removable aligners. Your orthodontist will then use this scan for your digital treatment planning and ordering your aligners.
Once your digital treatment planning is complete and your aligners are received, you will have an appointment with us to have them fitted and to have any attachments placed that are part of your treatment plan. Your orthodontist will then spend some time with you after the appointment to show you how to put your aligners in, how to take them out, how to keep them clean, and what to expect during your Invisalign treatment. He will also share some great tips and tricks with you.

Thankfully, caring for them is easy. Just follow these simple Do’s and Don’ts when wearing Invisalign:

  • Rinse Every Time: Any time you take your aligners out of your mouth, rinse them thoroughly under running water. This will rinse away bacteria, saliva, and food particles.
  • Clean Your Teeth: Proper care isn’t just about clean aligners – your teeth need to stay clean, too! Be sure to brush and floss your teeth regularly to prevent build up of plaque and bacteria under the aligners.
  • Use Clear, Anti-Bacterial Soft Soap: This is a great way to keep your aligners free of bacteria and plaque.
  • Brush Carefully: Ideally, you want to brush them every time you take them out or put them back in – but be careful, as overzealous brushing can leave visible marks and scratches.
  • Eat or Drink with the Invisalign aligners on: Foods and colored drinks can stain your aligners and leave an unpleasant smell, so stick with water while you’re wearing them.
  • Use Toothpaste: Toothpaste is great for your teeth, but it can harm your aligners. When you brush them, do so gently and without paste.
  • Use Scented or Colored Soap: Using anything but clear soap with aligners can cause them to stain.

While there are many options to straighten your teeth Invisalign is the one of the clearer option that is free of brackets and wires. Invisalign allows you to work, eat, and participate in social situations worry free! All while giving you a perfect smile. Invisalign has many benefits for the wearer, such as comfort and flexibility, below we will look at 8 of the many benefits Invisalign has to offer.

1. Invisible Appearance
Invisalign trays are invisible! They are completely clear so they don’t detract from your face or smile. This is an especially great option for adults, teens, and young adults who want to live life without the brackets and wires associated with traditional braces.

2. Comfort
Invisalign trays are made of smooth plastic making Invisalign much more comfortable than traditional metal braces. There are no sharp/extruding edges or pieces of Invisalign and the trays are custom made to fit your teeth and mouth!

3. Improved Cleanliness
Invisalign trays are removable – when you are ready to brush and floss your teeth just remove the trays, clean your teeth, then pop them back in. The trays themselves can also be cleaned! To make sure there is no build up just remove the trays and rinse them under running water. A clean mouth is a healthy mouth! It is important to have healthy teeth and gums while straightening your teeth so you will have to best smile possible at the end of treatment!

4. Saves Time
With Invisalign you will be able to spend less time at the orthodontist or dentist’s office as they only need to be maintained every 8-12 weeks on average. Other teeth straightening options can take much more time and many more appointments.

5. Safe and Removable
Is your child or teen in sports or a band? Invisalign allows for a more comfortable experience without the scrapes other orthodontic options can cause. Invisalign trays are also removable which makes brushing your teeth, eating, and everyday life more convenient than other options.

6. Eat Whatever You Want
Food restrictions are one of the worst parts about teeth straightening with many orthodontic options. Some of your favorite foods are off limits, which can really ruin a special celebration, anything too hard, chewy, or sticky is off limits! These issues are not a problem for Invisalign. You can remove the trays and eat whatever you want!

7. Better Dental Health
Straight teeth are better for your gums and dental health. Eliminating crowding and gaps makes it easier to care for your teeth, better dental health leads to better overall health.

8. Beautifully Straight Teeth
The result speak for themselves and Invisalign can lead to beautifully straight teeth and a wonderful smile. Possibly the best reason to use Invisalign!

The aligners (or trays) that are moving your teeth into the appropriate place will not work correctly if they’re not worn properly. Research has found that individuals who wear their aligners less than 20 per day have counterproductive results, plus it lengthens the process.
Invisalign treatmet is generally easier and comfortable in comparison with conventional braces, but patients need to be dedicated to wearing their customized aligners for at least 22 hours each day and a full 48 hours the first two days upon acquiring new ones for adjustments. Committing to wearing the aligners means that your teeth will most likely become straighter as per your treatment program or possibly even faster than initially expected.

When you decide that you are ready to move forward with an Invisalign treatment, then digital images and 3D scans will be taken of your teeth. These images are used in a computer system that maps out the way your teeth will move through the course of your treatment.
Then, this personalized information is sent to a dental lab that creates your custom-made aligners. The number of aligner sets and length of treatment varies depending on the severity of your dental concerns and the types of problems that need to be corrected.
For optimal results, your Invisalign aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours each day. You have the option to remove the aligners to eat and brush your teeth, but it is best to replace the aligners as soon as possible.
It’s important to have realistic expectations when it comes to Invisalign treatment. Despite the name of the product, Invisalign is actually not completely invisible. It’s pretty easy to tell from a conversational distance if someone is wearing these aligners or not. However, compared to braces, Invisalign is much less noticeable.
