Root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes inflamed or infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed.
An apicoectomy is a minor surgical procedure in which the very tip of the tooth’s root is removed and sealed. An apicoectomy may be needed when an infection develops or persists after root canal treatment,or retreatment.
Root planing is a method of treating severe gum disease.
